AOL address book has received hundreds of unknown entries & MAILER DAEMON messages
Greetings wise wizards of EE:
I'm helping a friend who has been using AOL for many years. Suddenly her AOL address book has been populated by hundreds of new entries for people she doesn't know, as well as dozens of MAILER DAEMON messages, from e-mails that she didn't didn't send. I am aware of harvester viruses, that send e-mails after collecting e-mail addresses, but I am not sure how the address book entries were created. These mysterious e-mail address book entries appear on both her AOL browser software, as well as her AOL web mail (when using Internet Explorer, checked from multiple computers). I did run both McAfee and Ad-Aware scans on her machine, which detected no Internet threats. My questions are: How did the spam/virus create additional entries in her AOL address book, and is there anything (besides changing her AOL password and deleting the address book entries manually) that she can do about it? Many thanks in advance, Zovoth
Solution: AOL address book has received hundreds of unknown entries & MAILER DAEMON messages
How did the spam/virus create additional entries in her AOL address book? AOL usually automatically adds all new addresses to the address book or mine used to. Anything she can do about it hmmmm? see about keeping regular backups of address book and of aol user files where most of the user settings our stored http://email.about.com/od/aoltips/qt/Recover_Mail_and_Other_AOL_Data_from_Saved_on_My_PC_Backup.htm
