Outlook 2003 delay in typing after IE security update MS07-027 and MS07-033
I am the administrator of our corporate network and I am in charge of deploying new computers. For the last several years, I have been deploying them with the user and system temp files redirected as well as the IE Cache. These all go to "c:\TempFiles" with subdirectories for System and User (User has subdirectories for individual users). The C:\TempFiles directory has permissions granting Everyone Full access. Subdirectories inherit these permissions.
This update has had unexpected effects in Outlook 2003. Whenever someone is composing an email message, there is an extreme delay when typing. It can take up to 30 seconds for the words typed to appear on the screen. If I remove the update, the problem goes away. I had avoided this problem by blocking the update on my WSUS server but there was another update this month (MS07-033 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933566) that included last month's fixes and it is causing the same trouble.
I can't keep declining these critical security fixes. I'm hoping that someone has an Idea to fix this problem.
Solution: Outlook 2003 delay in typing after IE security update MS07-027 and MS07-033
Apparently the problem is caused by a large number of websites being added to the Restricted Sites in Internet Explorer. This is usually done by some anti-spyware tools like SpyBot and SpywareBlaster.
I've removed those programs from two affected computers and will see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, I'll clear the Restricted Sites list. I'll post an updat here when I know more.
