How to backup on an external USB device ?

HI I need to backup information data from a laptop to an external USB device booting from a third party application, I have tried acronis (boot rescue media) but doesn´t seem to be detecting USB units. ¿Any recommendation using acronis? ¿Any other options? Thanks
